Best Time to Visit
Best time to visit. Paris in bloom, mild weather, and pre-summer crowds. The Loire Valley and Provence are at their most beautiful. Book Paris accommodation well ahead even in spring.
Peak tourist season. Long days, beach weather on the Côte d'Azur, and major festivals. Paris empties in August as locals leave, tourist crowds fill the void. Very busy and expensive.
Second best season. Harvest festivals in Burgundy and Bordeaux, golden foliage, and thinner crowds. September in Paris is glorious. Wine harvest tours are excellent value.
Cold and grey in Paris, but Christmas markets are atmospheric. Skiing in the French Alps (Chamonix, Courchevel, Méribel) from December. The Louvre and Versailles have no queues in January.
