Best Time to Visit
Best time to visit. Mild temperatures, cherry blossoms in the north, and fewer tourists than peak summer. Good for Beijing and Guilin.
Hot and humid, especially in Shanghai and southern China. Peak season with crowds at major sites. Best for Tibet (dry season) and Yunnan.
Second best time to visit. Comfortable temperatures, striking foliage, and clear skies. Ideal for the Great Wall and rural landscapes.
Cold in the north (Beijing can drop to -10°C), mild in the south. Harbin Ice Festival (Jan) is impressive. Fewer crowds, lower prices.

One of the world's greatest engineering feats. The Mutianyu section near Beijing is the best for tourists, fully restored, less crowded than Badaling.
The Forbidden City, Beijing
The world's largest imperial palace complex. 980 buildings, 8,700 rooms, and 600 years of dynastic history. Book tickets online well in advance.
Li River, Guilin
The iconic karst limestone peaks rising from misty water, the landscape on China's 20 yuan note. Best seen by boat from Guilin to Yangshuo.
The Bund, Shanghai

Terracotta Army, Xi'an
